Really disgraceful to see the beginners being fooled by some #so_called_expert_coders_in_their_own_world that they even buy solutions from them just for the sake of earning high ratings and star to look fancy. First of all , it is really bad for someone who is really willing to learn programming as cheating and copying will really not help . Instead it will block the thinking process and make even worse to cope up when exposed to some real life competitions without this shitty external aid.
The purpose of long challenges is to fight till the last moment and get as much problem as u could solve with the best of the capabilities of any particular user. But nowadays , the ball is in the other court. What the heck is going on we the people who try to solve problems work hard on them and rest guys copying solutions are the same. In this process, people attempting honestly will get disheartened as they are not being rewarded as much as they have applied the efforts.
Serious plaigirism checking needs to be done and the accounts needs to be deactivated as soon as it is found doubtful.
@admin something seriously has to be done about it otherwise , soon the long challenge wont be attempted by good coders and these herd mentality cheaters will be shining in the leaderboard.

This is the reason I have stopped using CodeChef any longer. It’s actually very difficult for a newbie like me to get good ratings in a contest when most of the cheating happens in div3 itself. It kinda demotivates you that your hard work is useless and people who can cheat can only win. Please do something about it.

You are right. I have also decided that I will not take part in long challenges now. Codechef needs to take some serious actions. Long challenge is getting worst because of these cheaters.

Maybe the long challenge was made so that people can solve all the problems given in it by any means as they have 10 days to solve 10 problems and in the process of solving it you will learn something from it.

I am not telling you to copy-paste the whole code as it is but understand it completely and rewrite it so that it completely becomes yours truly.

For example rewriting the whole code in different language like C, Python, Java, Fortran, JavaScript. With this process, you will learn a whole new language.

Experienced programmers don’t need to copy-paste the whole code as they can rewrite it in the same language and you will never know if it is copied or not as there are many different ways to write a single program.

It is better to understand others code and rewriting it in your way as it saves a lot of time in solving a problem. Why should I waste my time when I can understand others code and rewrite it in my own way and waste my precious time?

Sorry, I may disagree with you( @rednevihs ) on some points here:-
Firstly, long challenge doesn’t imply every contestant solving all the questions , it is more of like giving the full efforts in 10 days and solve as much as possible . If some problems couldn’t be solved , then up-solve them after the contest gets over by seeing hints and editorials.

Coming the the point that understanding the code and writing in some different language , that is definitely good in learning prospects of new languages but it also needs to be done after the contest ends. We can’t take away the essence of brushing up the problem solving skills which is improved by fighting and building logic on question on their own. Also, if someone has a good command on one programming language it is hardly some weeks process to switch to others . What really demands a good deal of time is problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Lastly, It’s not like wasting or killing time by fighting for a particular question. Therein lies a lot of learning , if u give say 2 days for a question and think of different approached even though if it doesn’t work in the time lapse , then in the process u have eventually grown as a thinker. U have learned different approached to deal with the problem , explored theories regarding it and once the contest ends and seeing the editorial post contest will give more clarity and satisfaction than just taking away the code from someone during the contest.

That is how the whole CC community will grow , that’s what I feel!!!Opinions may disagree

" It’s better to understand other’s gibberish and Why should I take part in the contest itself when I can just understand the tester’s approach given in the editorial and then rewrite in my own way, and that too after the contest ends ? In that way I will not ruin the contest for other honest competitors and save my precious time." light301

seriously someone go check the submissions of king killing div 2 people have copied and pasted the code without even removing comments , this was my first long challenge but seeing people being soo fearless that they just copy and submit the code.

People like that are not here to learn but make fun of the system.

I think there should be no ratings for long challenges any more and also last few contests should be made unrated or suspicious contestants like who solved all problems on last should be punished.

Strongly agree with you. I had recently started participating in contests and i was able to solve three out of six questions in my first CodeChef contest and i was happy about it as it feels satisfied but after the contest ended and i came over discuss section to ask a question and there i came to know from the discussion section that there are some Youtube channels which provides solutions for the problems during the contests which is really pathetic as these contests are just for checking someone’s ability to code within a given time frame and for those who are taking the contests with honesty these things just becomes a barrier and they feel they didn’t achieved what that would have achieved. so its my request to codechef team to please look after such things and should deactivate the accounts of those who gets found to be indulged in cheating related works.

One year back the problem was not that bad but now due to neglegience and lineancy of Codechef very few people compete on CodeChef. During this June LunchTime the same code for Problem4 was submitted by more than 75% of people. Codechef didn’t run any plag checker and declared the results. Its really shameful. @admin

100% agree , in my college some of my juniors who are in first year , you know what first year guys literally don’t know even programming language completely , and they are doing 7 questions in long , just because of some stars / rating , let say they will even get 2000 aka 5 star , now what happen is they never enjoyed CP / problem solving , when someone asks them either they ignore or they r not able to explain even brute force , because they always cheated and habit of submitting the solution not made by them .

I know and saw many of here that they just become 4 or 5 via cheating and then leave CC ( some genuine are also there )

I request to all , now Div 3 long is approaching please don’t do that , these rating are the part of learning not anything else , solve many questions in long we have 10 days try to solve them , why cheat , let say u will get +10 only no issues if u r capable then you will increase surely , "greeen hai to kya hua izzat se green hai " , also I don;t know when MOSS will do its job but see if your solution is in plag then surely they will decrease rating by -275 so be ready for that , and don’t try to fool MOSS.
