Decreasing participants in last 2 contest

I was giving code chef starters contest consistently but due to some urgent travelling not able to attend previous 2 contest , but today i saw that participation has decreased in previous 2 contest .
I wonder why , but don’t know the reason , can someone guess the reason .
One may be due to placement season but it should also increase participation .

Hi there,
It is a kind off general trend. Students participate less around this time.
For example, similar trend can be seen at codeforces as well
