Strict Monday Munch

Respected Codechef Team,
I want to report something annoying and bad about warnings related to Monday - Munch (01 September 2025)
For those who don’t know, Monday Munch is an assessment, which is unrated, so you could practice your concepts of coding (at least that is what I think).
But, it has warnings: If you tab away from the window or not, then it adds 1 warning.
If you get 3 warnings, the access will be restricted to the assessment, no matter how hard you try.
First of all, the “checking whether user has tabbed away or not” thing functions terribly wrong in here, because how it checks it is that it automatically full - screens you, and then if you escape that fullscreen, it adds 1 warning to your “warning counter”.
This is absolutely wrong, as there could be some other reason for not even tabbing, but doing something other stuff, such as seeing the time (not visible on the codechef asssessment).
This is exactly what happened with me.

So, Codechef Assessment Organiser and the Team, if you are reading this, please listen to me and add these suggestions (if you like this):

  • Make a timer of how many seconds the user was away from the website (or simply, pressed escape, and didn’t even tab away, according to your method).
If the user exceeds the tab away time limit, then you could ban it.
For ex. If the time limit is 15 seconds, and the following happens:
  • Away at 6:30 - For 3 sec → Timer: 3 sec
  • Away at 6:32 - For 5 sec → Timer: 8 sec
  • Away at 5:33 - for 8 sec → Timer: 16 sec (16 > 15)
Then you could ban them from the assessment.
Or more complex but good method is to check how much frequently (or quickly) is that particular user tabbing away, so you could reduce the time limit according to that. (But never increase). (And for how long the user has tabbed away also matters, so you could also reduce time limit in that way.)
At the end, I want to say is that this is way too strict (I REALLY MEAN IT). And it should be decreased by a bit, and should be made such that only cheaters are caught, and other innocent people should continue doing their progress.
Note that I am not being angry and arrogant, but trying to be polite, keeping the frustation to myself only.

I really request the Team and The Assessment Organiser to look into this matter.
Anyone seeing this (except them), please send this to the Team or the Assessment Organiser to really look into this. I would be thankful to you (and them) if you approve my request.

Thanking everyone.

Regards,
Arjun

Hello @arjunmahadik

Thanks for your suggestions. From the next contest onwards, we will make some changes to make the contest experience of Monday Munch better.

Thank you @emperor100.
I really hope this is implemented in the website.
