Suggestions on standings/ratings for new comers

Just like how codeforces provides no standings for new Div 3 participants, Can codechef really do more or like the same for new comers?

Because the new comers who perform really well (solve’s >= 6 or 7 problems) are the Div1 participants (who are >= 5stars)
(OR) the one’s who did codeforces/spoj and using the codechef for the first time and more LIKELY they will continue.

  1. Can they be awarded with only ratings (and) remove them completely from standings for minimum 2 contests such that the actual/real participants will have proper standings table.

Example : October long challenge Div2 scenario

First go correct your facts.

You can read it here : Example Div 3 post : https://codeforces.com/blog/entry/70185

As stated in the blog

" Remember that only the trusted participants of the third division will be included in the official standings table. As it is written by link, this is a compulsory measure for combating unsporting behavior. To qualify as a trusted participants of the third division , you must:

  • take part in at least two rated rounds (and solve at least one problem in each of them),
  • do not have a point of 1900 or higher in the rating."

Clicking on that remember -

Summary

“Since even in the Div. 2 rounds regularly some Div. 1 users register new account and take high place, we also expect such unsportsmanlike behavior in the Div. 3 rounds. We will exclude from the official standings of Div. 3 rounds and put in a separate rooms all those who can’t be reliably called to be a real participant. Accounts that materially participated in less than 2 rating rounds (materially means solved at least one problem there) before the start of the Div. 3 rounds, and those who have ever gained 1900 or more rating units will not get into the official standings and will be assigned to separate rooms.”

Ever tried clicking on that “Show Unofficial” button on ranklist in Div3?
Also, Div3 is a subset of Div2. Anyone participating in Div2 gets a rank.

Summary

Stop fearing of ranks.

Summary

IMO, Div3 is also a bad idea. Just add 1-2 problems and make it div2.

Come on who doesn’t want to see (her)himself in the ranklist in (her)his first contest.

TL; DR;

Stop this spoon-feeding of new comers.

Yup, I know. Most of the chinese grandmasters/masters of Codeforces, etc. come for the first time in Div-2-Long. And top-50 spots are always filled with them.

The irony:-They never come to Codechef again.

Everytime its some completely new account.
