I believe that the short contest are better as it really push you to think unique.

Short Contest are for testing your skills while long contest is to make you learn and implement it.

short contest boost’s your speed and implementation skills and obviously u can not learn any new ds or algo in 3 hrs.
so long contest are also important for learning ds and algo.
