Is starting competitive programming in 2nd year is too late?

Any special reason for retiring?

Because I want to learn machine learning, which requires you need to be a graduate students, so I plan to take the postgraduate entrance examination this year.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m in 4th year now and too late as i joined 2 days ago. In the June lunch contest i could only manage to solve 1 question. Any tips for improving?

I think a lot of people start competitive programming in second year. I am no exception. I started it right after my first year completed.

If you are preparing for job you should focus more on interview questions but if you think you have some time then practice a lot and try to learn some important topics like Dynamic Programming,
Data Structures like tree, etc . Don’t waste time on a single question . If you are not able to solve , see the solution and move ahead.

@anon55659401 may help you . :grimacing:

There is a second question too . I started learning from coursera Algorithm part 1,2 and from elsewhere. I am ECE student . Is it right path for me to learn from coursera, gfg, youtube and clrs book?

Give equal preference to implementation also .

I was also doing the same. But i noticed that it took too much time to hone the skills. Also, after some time you will start forgetting. So,better learn by solving problems.

If you want to achieve good results in programming competitions, you can try to learn specific algorithms from books and then find specific practice on specific problem. btw, your codes are beautiful.

Yeah, that’s right. I’ve learned some very complicated algorithms, but now I’ve almost forgotten them because I haven’t practiced them.

which code are you talking about? And why your rating here is 6 and on page is zero?

My star is 6 may be a web siteā€˜s bug, you don’t care for it, your code is very concise, I like it.

Forgetting is not a problem. Problem is environment. I need competitive programming teachers and peers to discuss to get a little bit what so called motivation. People around me are at top of college but they are top in ECE and not CP. Is it beneficial to go in CP for students like me.
