What procedures does CodeChef follow to detect plagiarism and what steps does it take to address found cases?
I was left with a bit of sour taste today. I participated in this month’s long challenge and was ranked under 200 till today morning. Question 7 “Dense Graphs” had less than 100 successful complete attempts. By the end of the contest at 3:00 pm, within few hours, successful attempts to question 7 had moved to more than 500 successful complete attempts. My rank moved to about 400.
I understand that a number of people might be contributing towards the end of the contest, but to see such an increase in numbers of successful attempts within few hours to a reasonably challenging problem, seemed a bit odd.
I understand the perspective of people who see ranking and rating not as important, but I think when four good companies sit on the contest to hire and when one is looking for a job, possible cases of plagiarism could surely affect adversely.
I know all of them have cheated but I can’t mention all of them here. I just mentioned submissions which I thought are too much. Also I just mentioned 3 people and i don’t think complaining people from same college make them less guilty. Atleast their batchmates and seniors will get to know about their reality.
See no matter how much is done in these questions, how easy are the questions or how many answers are leaked…1 rank will be secured by only one person. Someone has to grab 1st position and someone 1000th even with the cheating. So I don’t think codechef rating are going to be obsolete and even if it will, it will not be due to cheating because number of 5 star coders will always be less and there will be always 1000 coders in top 1000 global rank.
Wouldn’t basic automated verification weed out majority of plagiarized submissions and increase efforts on the part of plagiarizing person to be able to successfully do it?
I think there must be some low-price (or even free) software available to accomplish basic checks.
I’m not active often on Codechef discuss but I thought it would be nice for me to put this out there.
Two of the top global rated participants (I’m talking rank 13-14 top) in March 2021 Div 2 had the exact same score for Wireless Electricity so I got curious and decided to check out their submissions and look at what I found:
Funnily enough, user Sahil with the exact same ID was flagged by @jay_1048576 in the previous long challenge yet it seems that the spree still continues.
I expect people to give the holy speech about not caring about rating yada yada, I’m just using this thread for reporting plagiarism, which was the reason why it was created.
Now They all changed the college name and profile pictures! Lolll rajan0909 , s_amardeep Earlier all were from NIT JALANDHAR rajan9353 He changed surname of one ID earlier all names and colleges were same!
I just realised he (RAJAN) and AMARDEEP are core team in CC CHAPTER OF HIS COLLEGE NIT JALANDHAR@admin Ban this chapter or change team asap CODECHEF
I just checked profile of ritik2900 and rohit4445, who are also member of core team in CC chapter. ritik2900 participated in div 3 and got 57 rank. His Dense graph submission is same as that of rajan9353, s_amardeep, rajan0909. Same is the case with rohit445. His dense graph submission is also exactly same. I think they should rename their group from cc chapter to cheaters chapter. Also fyi, I have already taken their profile’s screenshot. So changing names and profile photos won’t help them.
Could you please drop mails with some proofs to Codechef?
When newcomers cheat, it’s a different thing. Even if they get caught, they can make a new id and no problem. But once someone gets 6 star level and still cheats (Which is quite significant nowadays), the plagiarism flag on the profile goes a long way
It is not as much about what, those who plagiarize, would achieve but rather what, the ones deserving, are set to lose.
I believe basic automated checks can easily identify many plagiarism cases in very short time and would serve as demotivators to the people plagiarizing.
